Swim America was
developed for three basic reasons:
Safety
Fitness and Health
Opportunity and Fun
With over 8,000
drownings in the United States each year, it is important that
everyone learns how to swim. Swimming also is recognized as the
most complete form of exercise, developing cardiovascular, skeletal
and muscular health. Learning to swim means acquiring a skill level
which permits participation in a wide variety of recreational and
competitive aquatic activities. Opportunities include competitive
racing, triathlon, springboard and platform diving, and SCUBA
diving. Activities such as boating, water skiing, surfing, sailing,
canoeing and fishing are made less hazardous when the participant
can remove them self from danger should the unexpected
occur.
The Lafayette Area
Aquatics Swim America Program is designed to meet the learn-to-swim
needs of children ages 3 and up. LAA classes are held twice per
week. Time slots are available on a first come, first serve basis.
